We will try to bring you as much information about Poole, the activities, the hotels and the attractions as this website grows.
If you don’t want to stay in caravans or tents then there are many hotels in Poole, with various rates to suit everyone’s pocket. Here are a few tips when choosing a hotel to stay in.
I am based in Paignton in Devon, about a 90 minute drive from Poole. Last summer we decided to spend a weekend exploring Poole Harbour and Rockley Park, mainly because a friend of ours was born there and he told us what a great place it is to live or go on holiday to.
When we got there we started by the harbour, driving quickly past the town center so that my wife didn’t really see any shops. I really wanted to get a feel for the place , do a few boat trips and just take in the stunning scenery and ” nose in ” at all of the luxury waterfront properties.
Sandbanks is where most of the hyper expensive houses are, with prices in the millions. I think I read somewhere, it’s the 4th most expensive place to live in the world.
It is very strange when you look across the vast natural harbour and see the Cross Channel Ferry sailing through the main channel and right next to it you’ll see a windsurfer standing in the water. Most of the bay is waist deep with a deep channel for the ships. It does look very strange when you see it.
When you explore the harbour side you will find plenty of pubs and “arty ” shops along with the traditional beach and gift shops. Across the water is a Luxury boat maker, ” Sunseeker ” . These boats, ships, cruisers, whatever they are called, prove that there is still plenty of money around for these multi million pound vessels.
To get to Rockley Park you have to travel across the bridge by the harbour and about 3 miles on you come to a really nice holiday village, where you can stay in your caravans, motor home , camp or stay in static mobile holiday homes. Situated on the banks of the river, a lots of the homes have brilliant views. There is a beach, but it’s not a Sandbanks beach, more of a stoney space to sit and do your watersports, fishing or just sunbathe and take in the views.
If you want to venture out of Poole, there is Bournemouth right next door and various other great beaches along the coast. If you are into fossiling there are also many areas to explore and dig for dinosaur gold.
Rockley Park and Poole are both lovely places to stay, purely for the spectacular scenery and wide range of watersports.
