Mit "Tau" präsentieren die rumänischen Folk-Black-Metal-Pioniere Negura Bunget nicht nur den langerwarteten Nachfolger zu "Virstele Pamintului" (2010), sondern auch ihr erstes Album für Lupus Lounge / Prophecy Productions mit genuin neuem Songmaterial. "Tau" markiert zudem den Auftakt zu Negura Bungets ambitionierter "Transilvanian Trilogy", einem akustischen wie visuellen Tribut an die Heimat der Band. Während im vorliegenden ersten Teil die rumänische Natur im Fokus steht, werden Teil zwei und drei thematisch der Mensch mit seinen Sitten und Bräuchen sowie spirituelle Elemente zugrunde liegen.

Auf "Tau" steht jedes seiner acht Lieder für eine spezifische Naturlandschaft mit ihrer einzigartigen Stimmung und Mystik, ihren Legenden und Bedeutungen. Die Vertonung erfolgt zu großen Teilen in Negura Bungets vertrautem Klangspektrum mit urtümlich harschen Black-Metal-Elementen und ihren meditativ-folkloristischen Antipoden. Zum seit je üppigen Instrumentarium der Rumänen gesellen sich auf "Tau" aber zusätzlich erstmalig Trompete und andere Blechbläser, welche die akustische Bandbreite der Gruppe auf originelle Weise erweitern. Auch Gastbeiträge von illustren Musikern wie Rune Eriksen (ex-Mayhem; Gitarre auf "Impodobeala Timpului") und Sakis Tolis (Rotting Christ; Gesang auf "Tarim Vilhovnicesc") werten das Album individuell auf. In seiner Gesamtheit wirkt die Musik auf "Tau" so erdverbunden wie auf keinem anderen Negura-Bunget-Album und lebt von einer Ausdrucksstärke, wie sie den Rumänen seit dem Klassiker "Om" nicht mehr innewohnte.
